Should you buy Subnautica in 2022?

Subnautica is an outstanding Survival game for Pc, Mac, Ps4, Ps5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox SeriesX.

Subnautica captures the feeling of Thalassophobia perfectly (Thassalaphobia is the fear of deep bodies of water and darkness.) and is the perfect game for those who are into survival and those who are into intense exploration.

The story for Subnautica goes like this (with as few spoilers as possible) You crash land on planet 4546B after your ship, The Aurora gets shot down by a mysterious energy blast coming from somewhere on the planet, with every lifepod that you search for survivors- with no luck – you really begin to feel alone, and that’s where the game really starts to shine. With most games, when they try to scare you they throw “Planned” jumpscares and other horrific sights at you, But Subnautica captures a feeling of terror perfectly – ok… let me explain the difference between horror and terror, Horror is a sensation when you watch or view something horrific, and typically demonic, but terror is when you have a feeling of dread that something bad is about to happen. – Most times when people have a game that has terror they try to find some comfort in familiarity, but you will find none of that in Subnautica. Like I said earlier the combined fact that you are deep in the ocean and have little light to quench that fear of “what’s down there?” is what captures the feeling of Thalassophobia so perfectly.

Subnautica provides moments of awe, for example, picture this, you are swimming through a dark sea with nothing but your small flashlight on your “Seaglide” you hear a noise and look around to find the source of that sound, you look all around you and you don’t see anything, but then you look up and you see the coolest, most charming creature ever, a reefback leviathan, these subtle moments are what makes Subnautica so amazing.

If you are concerned about whether or not you will get into it, the following statement will help. Subnautica is not for everyone, it takes a lot of patience and sometimes guts for this game to really shine for you.

But if you think that is ok, then you should get it

The game costs $30 USD. it is on PlayStation, PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox (Included in game pass.)
